Man injured in West Valley City shooting

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — Police said a man was shot in the stomach by one of his neighbors in West Valley City shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday.

Police responded to a call about a domestic disturbance at the Shadow Brook Apartments. When they arrived, they found the victim in critical condition on the grass outside the building.

According to officials, the shooting happened inside an apartment, but the victim was able to walk outside and find help.

The man was rushed to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Investigators said they are still trying to figure out what led to the shooting, but they said the victim knew one of this attackers because they were neighbors.

“We do know, however, that there is an active protective order between one of the parties that we do have in custody and the victim of the shooting,” said Lt. Michael Coleman, West Valley City Police.

Man sentenced for making child porn

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah - A Taylorsville man was sentenced Monday for making child pornography.

34-year-old Shawn Whiting was sentenced to four to 60 years in prison.

Agents with the Internet Crimes Against Children task force caught Whiting at his mother's house last November. He was a scout leader who worked at a local hospital and spent time at area skateboard parks.

Man sentenced for sex with teen

SALT LAKE CITY - A man who claimed he had sex with a 15-year-old girl at the direction of his prophet was sentenced to probation on Friday.

Geody Harman was part of The Holy Ghost Church of the First Born of the General Assembly of Heaven. Terrill Dalton, the church's founder, claimed to be the holy ghost.

Harman spent eight months in jail. He'll also have to pay a $1,000 fine.

Harman testified against Dalton who was convicted and sentenced to three years to life in prison.

Magna woman sentenced for child abuse

MAGNA, Utah - A Magna woman has been sentenced to 5 years to life in prison for sexually abusing a child.

45-year-old Adorabelle Bonifacio pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a boy for more than 4 years. Police say the victim knew Bonifacio and that he is the same age as her son.

She was charged with attempted rape of a child, attempted sodomy upon a child and two counts of felony sexual abuse of a child.

Arrest made in fatal shooting in Murray

MURRAY – Police have arrested the suspect in a fatal Murray shooting.

Murray Police arrested Jonas Rodriguez Perez Saturday morning at a house in Magna. Perez is the key suspect in a fatal party shooting in May. According to Murray Police, various leads led them to a home in Magna where Perez was arrested without incident.

Investigators said two rival gangs had reportedly gotten into a fight at a house party near 593 West and 6640 South in Murray around 4 a.m on May 19. A shot was fired inside the garage, causing people to attempt to flee the scene.

According to a probable cause statement, witnesses identified Perez as the person who fired the hand gun in the garage and chased down 21-year-old Alvert Mike shooting and killing him.

Police chase ends with dip in Liberty Park Pond

SALT LAKE CITY — A man was arrested early Monday morning after he allegedly stole a car and led police on a chase through Salt Lake County.

Orlando Joseph Roybal, 39, was taken into custody following the incident. The chase started around 3:30 a.m. near 4100 South and 2100 West. West Valley police tried to stop the car, a stolen green Honda Accord, but the driver refused. The driver led them to Bangerter Highway and eventually to downtown Salt Lake City. Police say Roybal obeyed the speed limit, stopped at red lights and used turn signals throughout the chase.

Officers used a pit maneuver to stop the car on Liberty Avenue, but the suspect ran away. The suspect ran through the backyards of nearby homes and jumped a barrier to get to Liberty Park. Police called out to the man, asking him to surrender, and the suspect then jumped head first into Liberty Park Pond.

Man sentenced for cop impersonation, sexual abuse

A man who impersonated a police officer and sexually abused massage therapists was sentenced on Friday.

Iese Maiava was sentenced to 6 months in prison and three years of probation.

Police say Maiava would fondle the women and expose himself during massages at two businesses in Millcreek and Kearns. When the employees complained, he told them he was a police officer.
